Hi, I’m Jonathan

I’m a Microsoft Security professional and Practice Manager focused on Microsoft 365 Security — helping organizations secure their environments, govern AI adoption (including Copilot), and build practical, defensible compliance programs. I also help people build careers in cybersecurity, particularly those coming from non-traditional backgrounds.

But my journey didn’t start in technology. It started with hard work.

I was born in Watertown, Wisconsin, spent part of my childhood in Puebla and Guerrero, Mexico, and returned to the United States to begin kindergarten. As the son of immigrant parents, I learned responsibility early. My parents worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for our family, and I often found myself navigating language barriers and responsibilities that many first-generation kids know well.

Before cybersecurity, I worked jobs that taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of earning every opportunity:

None of those jobs involved technology. All of them shaped how I approach it.

After graduating high school in 2015, I accepted a soccer scholarship to attend college in Georgia. Along the way, my focus shifted toward cybersecurity — I earned an associate’s degree in Cybersecurity at a local technical college, then completed my bachelor’s degree at Kennesaw State University.

I lived in Georgia for about seven years, and that’s where I learned the most about myself and the corporate world. I arrived with zero connections and zero family — I had to figure out, on my own, where to even start a career. Along the way, I built a network of friends and mentors who shaped my early years in the industry.

In 2024, I moved to California to continue growing my career in Microsoft Security at a technology startup.

Today, I specialize in Microsoft 365 Security, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, Zero Trust architecture, and enterprise security strategy — and I’m building this site to document what I wish existed when I was starting out.
